The 2016 Ubud Food Festival was a triumph – three days and nights of food, drink and all things culinary. The “Go local” theme celebrated excellence in Indonesian cuisine, local culture and the eclectic Bali food scene, featuring the very best of Ubud’s restaurants, chefs and eateries of all types. It proved a perfect blend of local and international, offering something for everyone, from colourful street food stalls to live cooking demonstrations and fine dining.
From Friday to Sunday May 27-29th, the festival offered a dizzying array of activities including food tours, special events featuring leading local and international chefs, workshops and live demonstrations at the Indus kitchen stage alongside the Festival Hub on Jalan Raya Sanggingan. The lively hub hummed with vendors and activities day and night while festival activities reached out to over 30 venues across Ubud, from restaurants and cafes to markets and leading hotels.
Friday 27th 6 pm “Archipelago” dinner, poolside at the Alila, Ubud Petty Elliott presented a special “Archipelago” five-course menu from around Indonesia, paired with fine wines.
Saturday 28th, 2.30 pm “From street food to fine dining” at Indus kitchen stage. A one-hour demonstration of a selection of recipes from Petty’s new book “Jakarta Bites” with support on stage from Helianti Hilman
Sunday 29th, 1pm – 3pm “Spice Legacy Journey” at Indus kitchen stage. Helianti Hilman founder of Javara, presented a fascinating two hours on Indonesian spices with Petty providing a range of tapas style dishes. Javara, a social enterprise, seeks to preserve biodiversity and tradition, working with 50,000 Indonesian farmers to bring community-based, organic products to broader markets.
