Indonesian Independence Day at Plaza IndonesiaAug 17, 2017
Celebrating Indonesia’s 72nd year of independence, Petty Elliott curated a special dinner in the central square of the prestigious Plaza Indonesia shopping mall in the heart of Indonesia’s capital city. Guests included a number of foreign Ambassadors and spouses, high society and the business community.
A number of leading restaurants collaborated with Petty to provide an eclectic but modern interpretation of Indonesian food traditions for this special occasion. These included cocktail nibbles inspired from well known local dishes such as gado-gado, rissoles and lumpia or spring rolls, to a range of dinner offerings served in style in the open setting. These included Sumatra mango and soft shell crab salad, the famous traditional favourite of oxtail soup buntut, blended into dumplings in a delicious broth infused with spices, tomatoes, celery and shallots.
The main course and highlight was a Nasi Tumpeng Nusantara. This featured the ceremonial Javanese icon of a turmeric flavoured rice cone surrounded by a feast of Java prawns in soya, chilies and lime sauce, an East Java mixed vegetable recipe known as Urap, with spiced grated coconut, much loved Rendang, slow cooked beef curry, Aceh pickled pineapple, Baramundi fillets in tomato salsa, Manado style alongside Maduranese chicken satay.
Thanks to participating culinary teams from Cork & Screw, La Moda, Sate Senayan Seribu Rasa, Sari Ratu and Rempah Kita.
